Sharon Mosi

My name is Sharon Mosi, the first born in a family of four, raised in the midst of Kibera slum in Nairobi. I am currently an undergraduate in Bachelor of Education in Arts at Kisii University. My dreams came to life when my mother, Teresa Adhiambo (now late), was introduced to Nelly Kagoru, founder of Dream of a Child Foundation, during meetings empowering women in the slums with a group called Women of Peace.

I attained 375 marks in my K.C.P.E and was called to join State House Girls High School. Due to hard financial times, my parents were unable to raise my fees. Nelly took me in the foundation and walked with me until the completion of my high school level. She has been a counselor, confidant, and most of all, a friend who has walked with me throughout these years to help me attain my dreams of becoming a better person and making my community a better place to be in.

Dream of a Child Foundation has helped me, among others in Kibera slums, and brought a smile to their faces. It has offered food, clothing, education, and guidance that will enable them to better their future.

I am thankful for this foundation for helping me achieve my dreams, and my prayer is that Dream of a Child Foundation will reach more children in the slum and beyond and work with them as it did with me.

Maureen Adhiambo

Maureen Adhiambo, a beneficiary of Dream of a Child Foundation, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity provided by the organization. Despite challenges during her high school education, she received invaluable support that helped her overcome obstacles. Now employed as a professional teacher in Tana River County, Maureen acknowledges her previous limitations, the help and guidance she received from Dream of a Child, and remains hopeful that, with time, she can extend assistance to others in need.

Joan Kerubo

Hello and Praise God,

My name is Joan Kerubo, and I am immensely grateful for the Dream of a Child organization’s program. Through this program, I successfully completed my high school education. I had been struggling with school fees and was frequently being sent home due to a lack of funds. I came to know about Dream of a Child from my mother, who was one of the widows benefiting from Dream of a Child’s tailoring project.

Dream of a Child provided me with an opportunity I had never imagined. They covered my school fees, provided educational support such as school uniforms, transportation, books, as well as medical care when I was unwell. With their assistance, I completed my Form Four education and enrolled in college. I pursued a diploma in hospitality management and graduated. Now, I am pursuing a bachelor’s degree in hospitality management.

Thanks to this wonderful program, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunities it has provided me.

Mercy Ouma

I am honored to be one of the recipients of the Dream of a Child Foundation Scholarship. I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to the foundation for their kind support in financing my studies, especially to Madam Nelly, who has been a great blessing to me. I met Madam Nelly through a mutual friend who is also a beneficiary of the foundation. I had been invited to a youth seminar at her church, where we discussed issues affecting us as youths and how to cope with challenges. It was a difficult time in my life because I had just finished secondary education and lost hope of pursuing higher education due to financial constraints.

Growing up in a less privileged community not only posed financial and academic challenges but also highlighted the value of college education. I wanted to be an example to my community that education is key to success. I talked to Nelly about my situation, and she promised to call back. When she offered to help, it felt like a dream come true, as it was just a day before the university registration deadline. She cleared my high school fee balance, university entry fee, and supported me throughout my university education. Now, I am a graduate of Kenyatta University with a degree in Information Science.

Receiving help from this foundation was life-changing; it changed my perspective and encouraged me to have faith and hope regardless of circumstances. It helped me realize my self-worth and taught me to hold myself in high regard. Without Dream of a Child’s involvement and generosity, I wouldn’t have been able to aim high and reach my potential. The best memory is when we got together for Christmas, receiving presents from the foundation, representing good and caring people attentive to others’ plight.

My prayer for Dream of a Child is that it continues to grow and transform many other children’s lives. Thank you for the life-changing gift and equipping me for a lifetime of success. You have inspired me and taught me that giving back to the community is vital, especially through scholarships.

Mercy’s Video Testimonial

Owen Wekesa

I first met Nelly, the founder of Dream of a Child, when she was serving as the women’s leader at Citam Woodley church. Having lost my mom, my siblings, and I were orphaned since we had lost our dad earlier. Being the first born, it was indeed a time of crisis. Dream of a Child sponsored my education until I cleared fourth form at Queen of Apostles High School.

Thereafter, they provided me with accommodation, upkeep, and also enrolled me for an accounting course at Nibs College for a year. By the grace of God, they helped me secure a job at Pemafresh, where I am currently working as a cashier. Now, I am able to pay my bills, be independent, and I am helping my younger siblings. To God be the glory.
